Rueda Practice Night, Jan 7
(reposted 01-02-2009) First Wednesdays are Salsa Rueda practice nights which are being held at Barbara's Dance Studio in Hurst. During the Latin Practica at 9pm, anyone who wishes to participate can come. We'll be working on Sombrero, Balsero, and the Abenico patterns. Rueda is learning out to trade partners in the round with cool moves. We will be adding new patterns each month as well. It's just $5 for the practice. We'll keep this up for about a year. Do not miss out so you can do all the new moves. Try to bring a partner.

Gocha and Shorena Grand Opening
(posted 12-13-2008) Dance champions Gocha and Shorena are having a truly *grand* opening for their new studio! Saturday Dec. 13th, 7-10 pm Showcases, Social dancing $10 at the door (dance shoes only please) Be among the first to dance in Gocha and Shorena's brand-new studio! A new studio has been constructed specifically for ballroom dancing, under the careful direction of Gocha and Shorena. A floating, hard-wood dance floor was laid by hand to provide the best possible dance surface. They designed one of the largest dance floors in the DFW area to provide exceptional room for advanced dancers. Of course!

Margarita Ball
(posted 12-02-2008) If you don't know about it, you should. It's here again, the formal annual charity ball, Saturday, Dec 6, 8pm to midnite, at the Tarrant County Convention Center benefitting kids. But time is running out. You'll need special tickets to get in and I have three more left (each good for four people). For details, go to the Web site of the Margarita Ball. For another way to get tickets, go here.

Beginning V. Waltz 1, Nov 22, Sat, 7:45pm, Swingtime Center

And for sure I'll play some V. Waltz during the breaks.

First Sunday Dance at Sterling Hotel Ends
(posted 11-03-2008) In a surpising notice, First Sunday Dance has termninated it's relationship with Sterling Hotel and will no longer host events there simply due to the raise in the floor rental. It became too expensive to pass along the price hike to the attendees. It was a good 6 years of dancing. If anyone knows of a cheaper floor rate, please visit www.FirstSundayDance.com for suggestions.

New Salsa Spot
(posted 10-27-2008) We've got a new Salsa venue at Aqua Lounge in downtown Fort Worth. Starting Nov 12, on Wednesday nights, the DJ will be spinning tunes for Salsa dancing. Go right after the Latin Practica at Barbara's Dance Studio. Franco, of the Xouba days, has put it together for us.

Best Kept Secret in FW
(posted 10-28-2008) We've been keeping this a secret, but we can't hold it back any longer. If you want a quaint lounge environment with a smooth Latin flavor, visit Scat's Jazz Lounge downtown on Sunday nights when Trio Cubano is playing on late Sunday nights. Salsa, Merengue, and ChaCha. On other nights, they have bands for swing, too. It's small and cozy like it was right out of the movies. You won't find anything else like it. Check the Scat location for details.

El Tren Latino
(updated 11-18-2008) El Tren Latino has moved to a new location in Irving. Salsa and more on Friday and Saturday nights. DJ Marisol on Fridays, and DJ Leo Mix (who also does La Joya on Frinday nights) spins the CDs on Saturday. Check El Tren Latino for details.

Latin Practica!
(revised 10-28-2008) Think Feather's Club. We're getting a good turnout. We have both a beginning Salsa lesson with Grace and an intermediate/advanced Salsa lesson with Jim at 8pm first. Then afterwards, we have the Latin Practica which is dancing to your favorite Latin music such as Salsa, Bachata, ChaCha, Merengue, Rumba, and more. This will be at Barbara's Dance Studio in Hurst. What does a Practica do for you? Test and practice those new moves you've wanted to learn in a studio environment before you take it out to the dance floor. Get advice and perfect your style. Or just plain dance and enjoy great latin music. I don't think any other studio is doing this. Cost is just $5 for the floor. Come on out and bring your friends.

Gotta Dance in Cleburne and Granbury
(revised 10-28-2008) Don't forget if you're in the Cleburne area, go to Gotta Dance for ballroom dancing on 2nd and 4th Saturdays and Country dancing on 1st and 3rd Saturdays. The other studio in Granbury has moved to 215 Western Hills Trl and has dancing on the same nights.

Salsa Lessons at Naval Reserve Base
(revised 10-14-2008) We're back at the Fitness Center on Base while the Desert Storm event center is being renovated. We're only scheduled now until the end of November. So, come out while it lasts.

Latin Fire is Back at Gloria's
(posted 05-23-2008) Latin Fire will be at Gloria's restaurant on 7th Street, Saturday, May 24. They appear every fourth Saturday of the month. It's all about Salsa.

Photos from Feathers
(revised 09-12-2007) Carlos Landeros took some photos of us at Feathers. You can go to CarlosLanderos.com and see which ones to view and order if you like. I ordered mine already. We had fun making them!

Green Oaks Hotel Closing
(posted 08-31-2007) They say all good things must come to an end, and it looks like that's what we're facing in a few months. The hotel is slated to be torn down in December after 42 years of service to the community. I will continue host the dance events at Feathers through November unless I get other news. Enjoy what's left! For two newspaper articles about this story visit: Wrecking Ball and Torn Down. This will change the target of this website to dance in general. Stay posted for new plans. Be sure not to miss our photo session described above.
